What a week...weather wise!!

We have had a week of cold and miserable weather. We all thought that the wind was very scary!

For our experiments this week we tried baking ice-cream in the oven without it melting.
How does that work you may ask....we all wondered the same!!!

First we had to beat egg whites and put the mixture over a biscuit that had ice cream on it.
Then into the oven it went...we watched and waited thinking all the time that it wouldn't work.

When the ice cream came out of the oven we found that only one had worked! It was Jasiah's.

What he had done was to cover every bit of the ice cream with the egg mixture not leaving any gaps.

We learnt that when you beat egg whites a lot of tiny bubbles are made and trapped in the foam It is these air bubbles that protect the ice cream when it is in the oven.
Separating the egg whites....

Beating the egg whites...

All ready...

Now into the oven...

Watching and waiting...

Finished product...

We were all amazed...
Chef of the day was Gabby this week.
She wanted to make a meatball recipe that her Dad makes. When we looked at the recipe it was decided that it would take too long to make SO....Mark her Dad made up the recipe for us and all we had to do was roll the meat into balls and cook it.
It was so delicious!!
It was made from pork mince and had a tomato sauce to go over the meat balls and spaghetti.

Thanks Mark...you are a star!!

We dipped our hands in water...this makes it easier to roll the mixture into balls.

Before sitting down to eat this delicious meal we set the table...just like at home!

Remember to wrap up well as it is cold out there!!

Lets hope it improves for the weekend!

Week 7

Hi Everyone,

We all hope that you have enjoyed the sunshine that we have been having this week......we have.
It is so good to be able to get outside and play.

It was science time again.
This is what Aaron's chose.......

Discovering what sort of objects absorb water

We all had our own materials to try an see what ones absorbed water and those that didn't.

They were wood, tin foil, cardboard, plastic, an ice cream cone, paper towel and a glossy magazine page.

The wood absorbed the water..we thought that it would only wet the outside of the wood but it didn't...it went right through

We thought that the water would run off the glossy paper but it didn't

We were right about the ice cream cone...it got very soggy when we put water over it.

Did you know that objects absorb water are called porous.

That means that they have lots of tiny holes in which liquid or                                                 air can pass through.

Today it was Aieshar's turn to be Chef Of The Day.

She chose fried rice.

Some of weren't very happy with her choice but the rest of us thought it was absolutely delicious .

Thanks Aieshar!

Have a superb weekend everyone!

Week 5

Greetings from all of us here at the Afternoon Programme.

This week we put on on our labs coats again and did an experiment that Aieshar chose.

It was called Invisible Ink.
We had to squeeze a lemon to get the juice from it.
Then we dipped cotton buds in the juice to make a message or a pattern.
When the juice dried we put an iron on it to reveal the picture.
Mmmm ....it didn't work so what should we do?
Since we are scientists we thought what would they do?
Yes...try again and thats what we did.
Sadly we didn't get the result that we thought we would.
We wondered what we could do differently if we tried this experiment again.

Paul came in to see us on Tuesday .
We had a fabulous afternoon making origami.
Ryan had done origami before...he showed us how to make flowers.

Mrs Coleman came in and tried to fly the planes that we had made....keep on trying Mrs Coleman!!

 Noodle Day!

Chef Jasiah chose noodles .

They were so delicious and very easy to make.

Noodles are very hard to eat when they are hot!

Have you played Jenga before?

We played it this afternoon and we had such fun.
We all helped each other out with words off advise of which one to take out.

We hope that you all have a safe and happy long weekend.
