Yay...the sun has returned!!

Hi everyone,

This week we all welcomed a new  member to our the Afternoon programme.....Ryan.

"Welcome Ryan...it is great to have you in our team"

It was such a miserable day on Wednesday.    Sadly  athletic sports day had to be cancelled and we were all a bit sad about that, so what would we do instead?

It was put to the vote and we all decided that Kiatoro time would be perfect so out came the dough, art activities, duplo and sand tray.

Ryan and Gabby set up a bakery with the dough....they made amazing cakes and pizzas.
Cutting the bananas....
Now for the milk....
After they made their products Ryan and Gabby set up a shop to sell them.

Great team work going on here.....

On Thursday we made milkshakes.

The flavours we chose were....banana, chocolate and banana and chocolate.

The ingredients that we used were...milk, milo, ice cream and bananas.

Now for the ice cream...

Now to turn on the blender....

Mmmm.....this is delicious!

I just have to make sure the lid is on properly....

Cutting the banana....

Adding the milk....
The ice cream is quite hard to get out of the container because it has been in the freezer...

Let's hope that the sun will stay out for the weekend!

Week 2

Kia Ora everyone.

As part of our Winning Ways to Wellbeing we went on a walk to 'notice' all the beauty and sounds that are around us.
Sometimes we are too busy running or talking to notice them so off we went to see what we could see and hear.

We heard:
A very noisy roar of a motor..... What was that?    Luke B knew..it was a chainsaw.
People chatting.
The noise of the cars on the road.
Builders hammering.
Birds chirping in the trees..
A plane.

We saw:
Old houses.
Heaps of trees.
Beautiful blossom trees.
Pretty flowers.
Daisies.
People walking.
A bridge.
New buildings.
A pink car.
Shops.
Mrs Pickles having coffee with a friend.

Daisies..

Aaron knew that this was a maple tree...

We didn't know the name of this tree..

Lupins..

These flowers had a beautiful smell....

Stunning  blossoms...

Mrs Pickles having a coffee with a friend....

Yesterday we arrived at class to find that we had a surprise in store for us.

Te Puna had invited us to join them as they were having a visit from the Fire Brigade.

The fireman told us all about how to keep safe in a fire and them we went out and had a turn squirting water from the fireman's hose!!!

We were all VERY excited!!!

When we got back to class we had a story about how firemen keep us safe then we practised dialling 111 on the phone and saying our name and address.

Gabby Willis speaking....

111....

My name is Luke..

I must remember 111...

I know how to dial 111....

We are hoping that you will all enjoy the long weekend.

If you are going away please drive safely.

Yay...we are back!!!

Welcome back everyone!
We all hope that you had fun over the holidays and soaked up the glorious sun.

Our topic for this term is Winning Ways To Wellbeing.

Mmmm...we wondered what that meant.
Luke B summed it up perfectly....being fit and healthy...not only with our bodies but in our mind as well.

So first up was being active.
A few of us are not that keen on the physical side of this so we had to come up with a plan of keeping active but with a fun element.

This is what we thought would be great....a treasure hunt, egg and spoon race, sack races, dancing to our favourite music and PMP.

Then we all took part in a discussion about baking versus cooking.
Since we are keeping active it was decided to do cooking....healthy of course!!!!

First up was scrambled eggs....we made them yesterday.

We have to be honest and tell you that a few of us  weren't very comfortable about that choice.

Cracking the eggs into the bowl....

Whisking the eggs...

Now for the mixture to go into the pot....

Wow...the mixture has gone from a liquid to a solid....

Mmmm...I'm not sure about this

Star of the day!!!

Luke was our star of the day...he didn't want to eat the scrambled eggs but he gave it a try and he thought that they were okay.

Well done Luke...not only did you try something new, you surprised yourself that you actually quite enjoyed them.

We are all hoping to follow in Luke's footsteps with trying things that we are not feeling all that good about.

This means that we will be setting ourselves some new goals for the term.

On Monday we celebrated Luke's birthday.

He had a fun time celebrating it with his friends during the holidays.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
